[윤세영 사진예술 편집장의 심사평] "키이노 님의 'Busy'를 보면서 안도현 시인의 '연탄재 함부로 발로 차지 말라. 넌 누구에게 한 번이라도 뜨거운 사람이었느냐'가 떠올랐다. 누군가의 언 몸을 녹여줄 따듯한 연탄이 되어준 적이 있는가. 누군가의 허기진 배를 채워줄 따뜻한 국밥이 되어준 적이 있는가. 김이 모락모락 피어오르는 커다란 들통에서 국을 푸던 손을 멈추고 잠깐 고개를 옆으로 돌린 밥집 아주머니의 뒷모습을 보면서 스스로에게 묻는 질문이다.
오늘 하루 이 아주머니의 밥을 먹는 사람은 몇 명이나 될까? 켜켜이 쌓인 쟁반이 녹록지 않은 하루의 수고를 짐작케 한다. 앞치마를 두르고 모자를 눌러쓰고 팔에 토시까지 완전무장한 아줌마의 강인해 보이는 옆얼굴과 위태롭게 쌓인 쟁반들과 혼자 들기에 버거워 보이는 큰 들통들. 그리고 비닐로 보이는 휘장 너머 번지는 불빛들이 한 편의 드라마를 만든다. 키이노 님도 그렇게 썼지만 아마 이 아주머니는 자식을 잘 가르치기 위해, 혹은 연로하신 부모를 편안하게 잘 모시기 위해 자신의 몸은 돌보지 않고 열심히 살고 있는 것이리라.
사진을 매체로 이용하여 표현하는 영역은 무척 다양하다. 순수한 파인아트로서 미적 교감을 나누고자 할 수도 있고 일상을 기록하는 서사일 수도 있고 또한 소통의 도구일 수도 있다. 키이노 님의 'Busy'는 삶의 단면을 프레이밍 하여 보여준 사실적인 사진이다. 미적인 가치보다는 삶의 진정성을 보여주고자 한 작가의 의도가 읽힌다. 그리고 삶의 진정성이 어떤 미적 가치보다 더 감동적일 수 있음을 보여준다. 그것이 또한 사진이란 매체만이 가질 수 있는 특성이고 미덕임도 실감한다."
[Judge: Yoon Se-young, editor of Photo Art] "While watching 'Busy' by Kiino, I am thinking poet Ahn Do-hyun said, 'Don't kick to coal briquette ash recklessly. Have you ever been a warm person to somebody even once'. Have you ever been a warm briquette to melt someone's cold body. Have you ever been a warm gukbap to fill someone's hungry stomach. It's a question I ask myself while looking at the back of a restaurant lady who stopped working on soup in a large steaming pot and turned her head to her side for a while.
How many people are eating foods made by this lady today? The stacked trays make you guess at the hard day's work. The strong-looking side face of the lady, fully armed with an apron, hat, and arm warmer, the trays piled dangerously around her, and the large barrels that she seemed hard to carry alone. And the lights that spread over the plastic insignia create drama. Kiino also wrote in the caption of the photo, but perhaps this lady is living hard without taking care of her body to teach her children well or to take care of her elderly parents comfortably.
There are many different areas of expression using photography as a medium. As pure fine art, it may be aesthetic communication, a narrative that records daily life, or a tool for communication. 'Busy' by Kiino is a realistic photograph of a cross-section of life by framing it. The author's intention to show the sincerity of life rather than aesthetic value is read. And it shows that the sincerity of life can be more touching than any aesthetic value. I also realize that it is a trait and virtue that only the medium of photography can have."
